Passport Requirements for Cruise Passengers - the latest information!

The government has once again changed the date for implementation of it's new passport requirement. For cruise passengers, the new effective date is JANUARY 1, 2008. On and after this date, all passengers embarking on a cruise from a US port will be required to have a passport. For air travel ONLY for any destiination outside the US, the effective date is still January 23, 2007.

Until January 1, 2008, cruise passengers departing from the US or a US Territory (such as San Juan) only need a notarized birth certificate and a driver's license. However be advised that if an emergency should arise while in a foreign port cruise passengers without a valid US passport MAY not be able to fly back into the US from a foreign island or location (Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, etc.).

Thus, at Cruises For Families we would like to see our passengers go ahead and get a passport in 2007 to avoid any potential difficulties in travel while in the Caribbean, Mexico or Bermuda. For information on obtaining a passport, visit www.travel.state.gov/passport or visit your local post office. Remember to allow at least 8 weeks to receive your passport.
